QUICK HIT: The Susquehanna volleyball team made history on Wednesday night as the team defeated the Catholic University of America 3-0 in a Landmark Conference semifinal to advance to the championship on Saturday. With the win, the River Hawks are the winningest team in program history.
CHAMPIONSHIP: The No. 2 seed River Hawks travel to face No. 1 seed Juniata on Saturday, November 5 at 7:00 p.m.
RECORDS: Susquehanna is now 31-6 overall while Catholic drops to 26-11.
DID YOU KNOW? This is the eighth time in 10 years that the Susquehanna volleyball team is heading to the Landmark Conference championship match.
WHAT HAPPENED? The River Hawks defeated the Cardinals in straight sets: 26-24, 25-23 and 25-18.
In the first set of the night the game was tied 12 times – with the last coming at 24 – until a kill from Morgan Lowe gave SU the 25-24 lead and a Cardinals' attacking error gave the River Hawks the set.
In the second set, Susquehanna jumped to an 11-5 lead before Catholic scored five unanswered points to come within two (12-10). A kill by Erin Byrne gave SU the three-point lead until a ball handling error followed by a Catholic ace tied the game at 15. The Cardinals proceeded to take a two-point lead (18-16) on a Tara Rempel kill and a SU attacking error. The River Hawks tied the set at 19 on a Marykate Sherkness kill and the set was tied four more times until back-to-back points gave SU the 25-23 win.
The Cardinals took a 4-2 lead before the River Hawks went on a seven point run ending with a kill from Lowe to go up 9-4. From this point forward, Susquehanna never looked back and took the third set 25-18.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE: Lowe ended the night with a double-double with a match high 20 kills to go along with 10 digs. Sherkness totaled 12 kills while Byrne contributed eight. Maggie O'Hearn had a double-double of her own with 40 assists and 10 digs while Caroline Beohm tallied 22 digs and Alyssa Chiodo had 15.
