TOWSON, Md. - Four Landmark women's soccer student-athletes were named to the 2019 CoSIDA Academic All-District Women's Soccer Teams.
For the second consecutive season, Lydia Lawson was named to the Google Cloud Academic All-District 4 First Team for the Elizabethtown College women's soccer team. She was one of four players from the Landmark Conference to earn this year's honor.
In addition to being a hard worker on the pitch for Elizabethtown, Lawson also excels in the academic arena. The senior's cumulative GPA of 3.84 was more than enough to earn the spot on the District 4 list.
Another chapter was added to the outstanding career of senior defender Rebecca Russo of The University of Scranton women's soccer team on Thursday, as she was named to the 2019 College Sports Information Directors of America(CoSIDA) Academic All-District® First Team. It also marks the third straight season that she has earned the honor, as well.
With today's announcement, Russo adds another accolade to her already impressive list of honors she has collected throughout her career for both her on the field performance and work in the classroom, as Russo boasts a 3.89 GPA as a Nursing major at the University.
In 2019, Russo has once again led the Royals backline to a great season, as Scranton (10-5-2 overall) will play in the Landmark Conference championship match for the 10th straight season on Saturday at Susquehanna. Overall, Scranton is allowing just 1.6 goals a game and has shutout seven opponents throughout the season.
On the offensive end, Russo has also gotten in on the act, scoring three times and adding an assist. Russo's biggest goal of the year came on Sept. 28 against Catholic at home, as her tally in double overtime lifted the Royals to a thrilling 1-0 win at home.
Susquehanna University women's soccer players Katie Beluch and Madi Weillver both landed on the 2019 Academic All-District® Division III Women's Soccer First Team.
Beluch, a 5-3 midfielder, boasts a 3.93 cumulative grade point average (GPA) as a biomedical sciences major and double minor in chemistry and health care studies. She has made the Dean's List every semester, which recognizes students who earn a GPA of 3.40 or better in a particular semester, and has been named to the Landmark Fall Academic Honor Roll in 2017 and 2018.
She serves as chair of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee's Fundraising & Outreach Committee. Beluch was inducted into Alpha Lambda Delta, a national honor society that recognizes first-year students with outstanding records, and Beta Beta Beta, the national biology honor society.
On the pitch, Beluch is a two-time United Soccer Coaches All-Mid-Atlantic Region Third Team selection as well as a two-time All-Landmark First Team honoree.
Welliver, a 6-0 goalie, owns a 4.00 cumulative GPA as an early childhood education (preK-4) major. She has made the Dean's List both semesters since transferring in prior to her sophomore year from Lycoming College. Welliver was named to the Landmark Winter Academic Honor Roll in 2018-19 as a member of the River Hawk women's basketball team.
In goal, she ranks fourth in Division III in save percentage (.915), eighth in goals against average (.31), and 10th in shutouts (9). Last season, Welliver was named to the All-Landmark Second Team.
