2016-17 Women's Soccer Athletes of the Week

  • Offensive Athlete of the Week - Gabby Stelzmiller, Moravian

    (So, F - Flemington, N.J.) Stelzmiller helped Moravian to a pair of Landmark Conference victories as the Greyhounds clinched their first home match in the Landmark Conference Tournament since winning the title in 2008. Stelzmiller netted both goals in the Hounds 2-0 win over Susquehanna to close out the regular season and clinch the second seed in the playoffs. She scored in the 80th minute on a penalty kick for the first goal of the match, and Stelzmiller scored again in the 89th minute to complete the regular season with a team-high eight goals.
  • Offensive Athlete of the Week - Emily Sullivan (Susquehanna)
    (So, F - Ambler, Pa.) Sullivan scored three goals and had one assist in two games as SU went 2-0 in Landmark Conference action this week. In the first game of the week, Susquehanna defeated Juniata 2-0 with Sullivan scoring both goals four minutes apart in the first half. On Saturday, the River Hawks defeated Drew 2-0. Sullivan scored what turned out to be the game-winner at the 57:47 mark. Sullivan then assisted on her teammates insurance goal in the 82nd minute.
  • Defensive Athlete of the Week - Jessica Lawton (Moravian)
    (Jr, GK - Winfield, Pa.) Lawton helped Moravian to a 2-0 mark in Landmark Conference action as the squad returned to action after a week off. Lawton played all 180 minutes in goal with 18 saves and a 1.00 goals-against average. She had four saves in the Greyhounds' 2-1 win over Elizabethtown College. Lawton then made a career-high 14 saves as Moravian posted a 2-1 win over regionally-ranked Catholic University.
  • Offensive Athlete of the Week - Lindsay Aleman (Catholic)
    (Sr., kickers) This week, Aleman scored points in her seventh and eighth consecutive games while becoming the landmark conference all-time leader for career points (115). During Catholic's non-conference 3-0 victory over Virginia Wesleyan, Aleman notched two goals for her 112th career points, surpassing Drew's Emma Campbell '15 (111). On Saturday, the Cardinals topped Elizabethtown 2-0 with Aleman notching the insurance goal along with an assist on the gamewinner.
  • Defensive Athlete of the Week - Krissy Welsh (Scranton)
    (Sr., GK - Strath Haven, Pa.) Welsh made a career-high 12 saves as the Royals knocked off 25th-ranked Misericorida, 1-0, on the road on Wednesday night. She made nine stops in the second half after Scranton took the lead in the 37th minute. The shutout was her fifth of the season and 21st of her career, which is tied for fifth on the team's all-time career list. Three days later, she made two saves as the Royals won their seventh straight, 3-2 in overtime at Susquehanna.
  • Offensive Athlete of the Week - Lindsay Aleman (Catholic)
    (Sr., kickers - Hockessin, Del.) With two goals in Saturday afternoon's game on the Cardinal Stadium turf, Lindsay Aleman became the CUA Women's Soccer program's and the Landmark Conference's leading goalscorer. The goals helped lift the Cardinals to a convincing 6-0 shutout conference victory overJuniata. The senior from Hockessin, Del., tied Catholic's Laura Kaye ('05) and Drew University's Emma Campbell ('15) for the most career goals when she notched her 49th to open the scoring for the Cardinals in the 7th minute. In the 56th minute, Gomez slotted a firm pass to Aleman, who tucked the ball inside the left post to become the first CUA women's soccer player to reach the 50 goal milestone.
  • Defensive Athlete of the Week - Carolyn Warner (Scranton)
    (Sr., D - Morris Plains, N.J.) Warner continues to be a scoring threat from the backline, finishing the week with two goals and an assist as the Royals won twice to push their winning streak to six. She got Scranton on the board in the 12th minute in a 4-0 win over Wilkes on Wednesday for her first game-winning goal of the season. On Saturday in a 5-0 win over Elizabethtown, Warner scored the team's second goal, then played a beautiful ball from the backline to the far left post for an assist on the final goal in the conference win.
  • Offensive Athlete of the Week - Emily Sullivan (Susquehanna)
    (So, F - Ambler, Pa.) Sullivan's goal less than two minutes into overtime gave SU the 1-0 road win over Wilkes University Tuesday night. It marked the sophomore's second goal of the season and her second game winner. Sullivan scored her second game winner of the week as SU defeated Catholic in Landmark Conference action Saturday. The River Hawks won 2-1 with Sullivan scoring the game winner off of a rebounded shot from teammate Alyssa Bolger in the 84th minute.
  • Defensive Athlete of the Week - Jordyn Slocum (Susquehanna)
    (Sr, GK - Eagleville, Pa.) Slocum made five saves on six shots on goal in SUs 2-1 win over Catholic this weekend. This marks the first time since joining the Landmark that Susquehanna has defeated Catholic.
  • Offensive Athlete of the Week - Jamie Hreniuk (Scranton)
    (So., MF - West Caldwell, N.J.) Hreniuk scored in each of the Royals' wins during the week, extending her scoring streak to three straight matches. She began the week by scoring an insurance goal in Scranton's 4-0 win at Marywood on Wednesday evening. Three days later, she scored the match-winner in a 1-0 win over Farmingdale State in the team's home opener. That goal in the 26th minute was her first career game-winning goal.
  • Defensive Athlete of the Week - Kerry Leonard (Juniata)
    (Jr, GK - Cockeysville, Md.) Leonard picked up her first two shutouts of the season this past week. She stopped eight shots as Juniata won 1-0 over Penn State Altoona on Tuesday. On Saturday, she had six saves and turned away some difficult shots as Juniata played to a 0-0 draw with Westminster.
  • Offensive Athlete of the Week - Val Margiottiello (Moravian)
    (Sr, F - Iselin, N.J.) Margiottiello helped Moravian to a 2-0-1 record last week including a 1-0-1 mark as the Greyhounds won the Drew University Fall Festival. She had two goals and an assist in the Greyhounds' 3-1 win over Penn State-Harrisburg including converting on a penalty kick to start the scoring. Margiottiello then scored Moravian's opening goal in a 2-1 win over Stockton University to begin the Drew Fall Festival.
  • Defensive Athlete of the Week - Jessica Lawton (Moravian)
    (Jr, GK - Winfield, Pa.) Lawton helped Moravian to a 2-0-1 overall record during the week including a 1-0-1 mark to win the Drew University Fall Festival. Lawton allowed just one goal in 245 minutes of action for a 0.37 goals-against average during the week. She also had eight saves for an .889 save percentage while starting all three matches.
  • Offensive Athlete of the Week - Cassie Coombs (Susquehanna)
    (Jr, D - Whitehouse Station, N.J.) Coombs had two goals on two shots this week, to go along with two assists for a six point week. Coombs netted the game winning goal in the River Hawks 2-1 victory over Lycoming in the season opener. In the second game of the week, Coombs nabbed two assists and one goal in a 4-1 win over Albright College Sunday afternoon.
  • Defensive Athlete of the Week - Carolyn Warner (Scranton)
    (Sr., kickers - Morris Plains, N.J.) Warner picked up where she left off last season, providing an offensive threat from the back line. She scored her first goal of the season to provide the insurance in a season-opening 2-0 win at Kean on Friday evening. She also was a big factor in the Royals allowing just six shots (only one on goal) in the win over Kean, and only three in the second half of Saturday's 2-0 win over Cortland State at Kean.
