SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Sophomore guard Lukas Yurasits poured in a game-high 22 points in leading the Susquehanna University men's basketball team to an impressive Landmark Conference Men's Basketball Championship semifinal victory Wednesday night. Susquehanna (19-7), the No. 1 seed, broke the game open with a 15-0 run to start the second half on its way to a 76-42 win over the fourth-seeded Moravian College Greyhounds (14-12).

The River Hawks are the No. 1 seed in the Landmark playoffs for the just the second time in program history as SU was the top seed for the first-ever Landmark Conference Championship in 2007-08. Susquehanna is making its 10th appearance in the Landmark tournament, finishing as the runner-up in 2009, 2014, and 2016.

SU will face third-seeded University of Scranton in the championship game on Saturday, February 29, at 7:00 p.m. in the Orlando W. Houts Gymnasium. Scranton eliminated No. 2 seed Drew University, 93-81, in tonight's other semifinal matchup. The two teams split the season series this year with each squad winning hard-fought battles on their respective home court as Susquehanna posted a 75-73 win on Jan. 22 while the Royals earned a 66-62 overtime victory on Feb. 5.

Susquehanna 76, Moravian 42

How It Happened
First Half

  • Susquehanna came out on fire, jumping out to a 10-0 in the first three minutes as Yurasits drained a pair of threes and sophomore guard Danny Frauenheim knocked down back-to-back buckets.
  • Addis Ralph slowed down the bleeding with his three-point bucket to finally get the Greyhounds on the board at 15:58.
  • The River Hawks did not allow Moravian to find its offensive rhythm as SU used a 16-7 run over the next eight minutes to boast a 26-10 advantage at 7:46 following another Yurasits triple.
  • Defensively, Susquehanna forced the Greyhounds into eight turnovers and limited the visitors to just 2-of-5 from field, including missing all four three-point attempts.
  • C.J. Barnes sparked a 15-3 run for Moravian over a five-minute span to pull within 29-25 with 2:04 left in the half. Barnes and Greg Eck each had five points in the run.
  • Susquehanna quickly responded by closing out the half with an 8-0 run to take a 37-25 advantage into halftime as sophomore Jay Martin scored half of the team's points.

Halftime

  • Yurasits led all scorers with 15 points on 5-of-7 shooting, connecting on all three of his three-point attempts, while Barnes paced the Greyhounds with eight points.
  • Susquehanna posted a 22-18 rebounding margin behind four boards from senior captain Zachary Knecht while notching 15 points off of 11 Moravian miscues.

Second Half

  • Fueled by the electric crowd in white, the River Hawks manhandled Moravian in the second half as SU opened up the half with a 15-0 run to hold a 52-25 advantage at 15:07.
  • The Greyhounds, with a depleted bench, had no answer for Susquehanna as the hosts dominated the paint and pushed their lead even further, owning a 41-point margin (74-33) with 3:35 left in the game.

Inside the Box Score

  • Defense got the job done tonight as the River Hawks picked a season-high 17 steals and forced Moravian into a total of 24 turnovers, which led to 28 points.
  • Additionally, Susquehanna grabbed a season-best 49 rebounds, including 30 defensive boards to hold the Greyhounds to just three second-chance points.
  • SU attempted a season-high 78 field goals, making 29 for a 37.2-field goal percentage for the game.
  • The River Hawks took care of the ball tonight, turning the ball over only seven times – a season-low.
  • The owner of a six-game win streak, Susquehanna has been nothing short of dominant in those six wins as the River Hawks have won the last six games by an average margin of +25.5 points.
  • Susquehanna improves to 42-30 in the all-time series with their second straight win over the Greyhounds.

Top Performers

  • Yurasits finished shooting 8-of-12, including 4-of-6 from downtown, for his third 20-point game of the season. He also added four rebounds and two steals.
  • Frauenheim was the only other River Hawk in double digits with 12 while chipping in five assists, three boards, and three steals.
  • Knecht led the team on the glass with a game-high nine caroms while contributing six points.
  • Ralph finished as Moravian's leading scorer with 15 points off the bench while Barnes notched 11 points and eight rebounds as the Greyhounds' Landmark title hopes are dashed.
