TOWSON, Md. – Drew University's Lucas Artigliere was named the Landmark Men's Golf Player and Rookie of the Year, while Goucher College head coach, Hunter Brown, earned his second Coach of the Year honors.
Artigliere capped a tremendous freshman campaign in impressive fashion, winning medalist honors on two playoff holes. Artigliere opened with a 75 on Friday and found himself tied for third, three strokes behind Goucher's Julian Gonzalez and Moravian's Nick Kuhn for the lead. All he did on Saturday was fire a 2-under 70 to finish tied with Gonzalez with a 145. The two then played the ninth hole as a playoff to decide the medalist. After playing it even the first time, they replayed the hole and this time Artigliere sunk his third shot while Gonzalez just missed. With his 70, Artigliere lowered by two strokes his own 18-hole school record that he shared with classmate Luis Ng Tang. He also dropped four strokes from the Drew standard for 36 holes.
Brown earns his second Men's Golf Coach of the Year honor after guiding the Gophers to their second straight Landmark title. Goucher went into the final round with a one stroke lead. The Gophers shot the low round with a 306 in the first round and then shot a low round of 302 in the final round to post a score of 608 and win its second-straight crown by 15 strokes.
