Field Hockey Players Honored With All-Landmark

TOWSON, Md. – Scranton senior Meredith Campbell is the Landmark Conference field hockey coaches’ pick as the Player of the Year while Catholic senior Kelly Cousoulis is the Defensive Player of the Year. The Royal’s Jenna Cyr was chosen as the Rookie of the Year.

Campbell led the league in goals and points this season with 31 goals and seven assists for 69 points. Campbell scored in 15 of the 17 regular season games she played in, including nine game-winning goals. She had a record-breaking performance against Wilkes, setting a Scranton single-game record with five goals to lead the Royals to a 5-3 victory. A month later, she broke the single-season record for goals scored in both school and conference history, scoring all three goals in the 3-2 win over Goucher. Campbell also helped guide the Royals to 15 victories this season, which is third-most in a single season in program history, trailing only the 16 victories by the Royals in 1997 and 1998.

Cousoulis earns her second Defensive Player of the Year honor after winning in 2016. A second-time All-Conference selection, Cousoulis played in every game for the Cardinals, and helped the Catholic defense post a goals against average of 1.53, the second lowest in the conference.

Cyr led the conference in save percentage, stopping close to 80 percent of shots on goal. She allowed just 13 goals in 15 regular season games, and just five goals in seven conference games. The freshman also earned First Team All-Conference honors.

Joining Campbell as First Team forwards are Catholic senior Rachel Day, Elizabethtown senior Emma Christman, and Juniata senior Katie Alexander. Day scored 12 goals in the regular season and had five assists and has earned First Team honors for the third straight year. Christman is a repeat selection to the First Team. She followed up her junior year with 14 goals and four assists for 32 points. Alexander is a first-time First Team honoree after earning Second Team honors in 2015. The senior scored 13 goals for the Eagles in 12 regular season games, including a four-goal performance against Drew.

In the midfield, Scranton senior Hailey Marini has earned First Team honors for the first time in her career. This season, she scored one goal and one assist as the Royals finished as the top seed in the Landmark. Catholic junior Lane Adams makes her second appearance on the All-Conference First Team, scoring two of her three goals against Landmark foes. Senior Megan Eppley joins Adams as a repeat First Team honoree. She finished with two regular season goals and five assists.

Joining Cousoulis on the First Team defense is three new faces. Elizabethtown junior Renee Grill, a Second Team selection a year ago, started in all 17 games for the Blue Jays. Goucher senior Sarah Shklanko ranked second on the team with one defensive save and totaled one goal and one assist this season. Scranton senior Jessica Kaplowitz finishes her career with 17 defensive saves.

Catholic Head Coach Heidi Lewis and her staff earned Coaching Staff of the Year honors. In just her second season as the Cardinals head coach, Lewis guided Catholic to a 15-3 overall record and a perfect 7-0 in conference play.
