Overtime Win Propels Susquehanna Field Hockey to Championship

THE MAIN STORY: The Susquehanna field hockey team fended off Catholic University on Wednesday night to win 4-3 in overtime to advance to the Landmark Conference championship game.

THE FIRST TIME SINCE: This is Susquehanna's first Landmark Conference championship game appearance since 2009 and Wednesday's semifinal matchup was SU's first time in the Landmark Conference postseason tournament since 2012.

GAME WINNER: Freshman Hunter Pitman scored the game winner in the 75th minute of the game off a short cross from Taylor Franco that was beyond the reach of the Catholic goalie.

WHO WILL THEY FACE? The River Hawks travel to No. 1 seed Elizabethtown on Saturday at 2 p.m.

TEAM RECORDS: Susquehanna improves to 15-3 overall while Catholic falls to 10-7.

HOW DID THEY GET TO OVERTIME? The game was a back-and-forth battle with no team taking more than a one-goal lead at any point. SU jumped out to a 1-0 lead on Pitman's goal 16:08 into the first half. The Cardinals tied it at one with less than five minutes remaining in the first half before Pitman struck yet again with a goal less than 10 minutes into the second half for a 2-1 Susquehanna lead.

Catholic tied it at two and went up 3-2 on Molly Crowley's third goal of the game with just over 13 minutes to play in regulation.

With less than four minutes to play in the second half, Cayla Spatz netted a game-tying goal of an assist from Lauren Cram to send the game to over.

In overtime, Pitman ended the game with a goal 4:15 into the action to send SU to the championship game.
