Landmark Announces Athletes of the Week

The Landmark Conference has released the Athletes of the Week. The conference will recognize a student-athlete for each sport based on their contributions to their team throughout the season.

Landmark competition kicked off over the weekend for the fall season. Moravian and Scranton hosted volleyball quad matches on Saturday. Catholic (13-4, 2-0 Landmark) defeated both Moravian and Elizabethtown 3-0, while Juniata bested Susquehanna and Scranton to improve to 8-4 overall, and 2-0 in Landmark action.

In field hockey action, Elizabethtown extended its winning streak to three after a 5-0 against Drew. Catholic, Goucher, and Scranton all picked up wins in the opening weekend of conference action.

Juniata, Scranton, and Susquehanna all won their opening matches. The Eagles defeated Goucher 3-1 on Saturday, while Scranton narrowly defeated Moravian 2-1. Susquehanna topped Catholic 1-0. Drew and Elizabethtown finished in a 0-0 draw on Saturday to round out the unbeaten teams in conference play.

Women's soccer kicked off conference play on Saturday, and it was Elizabethtown, Goucher, Scranton, and Susquehanna all picking up wins. Scranton has now won four in a row.

Four cross country teams were in action this weekend with Juniata and Susquehanna competing at the Lock Haven Invitational. The Catholic women's team ran at the Shenandoah Invitational.

The men's and women's tennis teams' fall seasons are wrapping up over the next two weeks. A number of teams competed at USTA/ITA Regional Championships this weekend.

Junior forward Rachel Day led the No. 20-ranked Cardinals to a victory in their Landmark Conference-opener, as they downed Susquehanna, 4-1. Day scored the deciding goal, earning a penalty stroke in the first half and burying the shot on a high go above the keeper's blocker. She also went on to assist Catholic's next goal, drawing the defense down to the end line to set up the score. She also added a goal in the Cardinals nationally-ranked matchup with No. 14 Christopher Newport.

Elizabethtown sophomore goalie Hannah Mack played in both games for E-town this past week, making one start and totaling 70 minutes in goal. She made four saves and did not allow a goal against a high-powered York (Pa.) attack last Wednesday, then came in to Saturday's game at half and again shut the door and did not allow a goal as the Blue Jays routed Drew 5-0. She finished with fives saves on the week and zero goals allowed.
