TOWSON, Md. - The Landmark Conference selects 20 senior scholar athletes each year to recognize the top student-athlete in each sport based on academics and athletics.
The honorees must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.20 and are selected by a committee of Landmark, athletics directors, sports information directors, senior woman administrators, and faculty athletic representatives. Chosen at the end of each sport season, the first six honorees will be announced over the next two weeks.
Elizabethtown College's Halley Donlin doesn't have the stand-out numbers normally associated with a top-tier player. Her presence was certainly felt, however. Donlin's sure-handedness as a last line of defense for E-town was vital to the team's success over her four-year stint as a Blue Jay.
She received on-field recognition as a junior, earning her first career all-conference nod as an All-Landmark First Team defender. Donlin did herself one better in 2016, not just repeating as First Team defender, but also being named the Landmark Conference Player of the Year.
Donlin was also a role model for her teammates and opponents when it came to sportsmanship. A calm and reserved demeanor on the field and a team captain, she was Elizabethtown's representative for two consecutive seasons on the Landmark All-Sportsmanship Team.
Her performance was not just limited to the field. Donlin has received academic accolades since her freshman season. Three straight years she has been named to the NFHCA Division III National Academic Squad, and would be expected to make it four this year. She is majoring in Psychology with minors in Biology and Cognitive Science.
As a junior in 2015, Donlin's GPA of 3.90 or higher qualified her for the NFHCA Division III Scholars of Distinction. She has also made the conference's Fall Academic Honor Roll three years running.
Donlin helped lead the Blue Jays to their first Landmark title and an appearance in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2006. She also represented Elizabethtown in the NFHCA Senior Game this past weekend.
Donlin is the first player to earn the Landmark Field Hockey Senior Scholar Athlete for E-town.
