Catholic Field Hockey Clinches Its Third Consecutive Landmark Title

WASHINGTON – In front of a season-high 500 fans, the Cardinal Field Hockey team obtained its third consecutive Landmark Conference title with a 2-0 shutout over No. 4 Scranton on Saturday.

Along with the title, Maura Campbell who assisted on the opening goal and conquered Scranton's goalkeeper Krista Mundy on the penalty stroke, was named Landmark Conference Championship Most Valuable Player.

Catholic scored its first goal 25 minutes into the contest, as Ellen Thorburn scored a goal from the top of the circle on a pass from Campbell.  Campbell advanced the Cards to 2-0 with a penalty stroke 34 minutes into the night.

Scranton junior goalkeeper Krista Mundy made six saves for the Royals, including four in the second half. The Royals finished with six shots to Catholic's nine. Junior midfielder Alyssa Fania had three shots to lead the Royals.

Catholic's Megan Comunale made three saves in goal.

CUA is currently ranked No. 20 by the NFHCA and No. 5 in the South Atlantic NCAA Region. The NCAA selections are scheduled to be released Sunday night at 10:00 p.m.
