Gretchen Kempf Chosen as Senior Scholar Athlete

TOWSON, Md. - The Landmark Conference has chosen six athletes as Landmark Senior Scholar Athletes for their respective fall sports. A committee of Landmark Conference officers, athletics directors and sports information directors selected the recipients, choosing one senior from each of the fall sports sponsored by the conference.

The honorees must have a cumulative GPA of 3.2 and are selected based on their accomplishments in athletics and academics. The conference office will announce the six honorees over the next two weeks.

The University of Scranton's Gretchen Kempf has been named the Field Hockey Senior Scholar Athlete. Kempf wrapped up her collegiate career last month after being named Landmark Conference Player of the Year. She also recently earned Second Team All-Region accolades after finishing the season with 15 goals and eight assists for 38 points. She is ranked fourth all-time at Scranton in points (100) and goals (41) while finishing second in assists (18).

During her career, Kempf has earned All-Landmark honors on three occasions to go along with All-Region honors twice. A team captain this season, she has helped lead the Royals to the Landmark semifinals the past two seasons and was named the Landmark Offensive Player of the Year last season.

Off the field, Kempf has earned a 3.55 cumulative grade point average at Scranton while majoring in occupational therapy and minoring in counseling and human services. She is a two-time Landmark Honor Roll selection and was named to the All-Academic team this season. Kempf has also been named to the Dean's List four times during her career.

Additionally, Kempf is a member of the American Occupational Therapy Association and Student Occupational Therapy Association. She is also a two-year member of the Scranton Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). Not to be out done, Kempf has spent time volunteering at a number of organizations including the Jewish Community Day Care, Clarks Summit State Hospital, Wendy Web Schoenewald & Associates and the Doylestown Hospital Patient Transport.
