MADISON, N.J.- A three-goal performance by sophomore Tracey
Scanlon proved to be the deciding factor in Catholic University's
field hockey match-up against Drew University Saturday afternoon.
With the 4-3 victory, the Cardinals soar to a 10-4 record on the
year, while Drew drops to 11-6.
The Cards jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, as Meredith Chandler (Tiburon, Calif./St. Ignatius) recorded her 10th goal of the season at the 19 minute mark. Chandler now leads the team in scored goals this season. Scanlon then chipped the ball into the net after a scramble in front of the box, and the Cardinals took a comfortable 2-0 lead.
Drew, unwilling to hand over the game without a fight, turned up their offensive fire, scoring three consecutive goals to put the Rangers up 3-2 midway through the second half.
Scanlon then took matters into her own hands. Three minutes after Drew secured the lead, the forward blasted the ball into the net after it ricocheted to her in front of the goal. With just under two minutes remaining in regulation, Scanlon clinched the game for the Cardinals by completing her hat trick off a shot from the right side of the field.
The Cardinals will look to continue their winning ways as they host non-conference rival Salisbury on October 29th at 3:30.
