WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Catholic University field hockey team
prevailed over non-conference foe Misericordia University 3-1 on
their home turf Monday afternoon. With the win, the Cardinals
improve to 8-3 on the year, while Misericordia drops to 6-9.
Catholic University dominated their opponent in nearly every statistical category throughout the match. The Red and Black out-shot their opponent and astounding 21-6, and earned 9 more penalty corners.
While the first half was relatively quiet for both squads, the Cards erupted in the second half. Junior Kendall Petschauer (West Long Branch, N.J./Shore Regional) broke the scoreless game with an unassisted goal at the 38 minute mark. Moments later, Mary Swarthout (Rockville, Md./Good Counsel) connected with Liz McCormick (Broomhall, Pa./Country Day Sacred Heart) to give CUA a 2-0 advantage.
The Cougars made the game interesting when Emily Foley scored off a pass from Camilla Hansen midway through the period, but Meredith Chandler (Tiburon, Calif./St. Ignatius) sealed the deal for the Cardinals with the final goal of the afternoon at the 54 minute mark.
CUA will return to action on October 17th, as they take on conference rival The University of Scranton at 1:00 p.m.
