Landmark Announces Athletes of the Week

TOWSON, Md. - The Landmark Conference has released the Athletes of the Week. The conference will recognize a student-athlete for each sport based on their contributions to their team throughout the season.

Men’s Basketball
Four teams kept their perfect conference record in tact on Saturday. Drew University extended its win streak to four games thanks to a pair of wins last week. In nonconference action, the Rangers (11-2, 2-0 LC) edged Carnegie Mellon 86-85 before beating Juniata College 73-41 in Landmark play. After suffering a pair of losses to nonconference teams Ithaca and Oswego, Moravian College (7-6, 2-0 LC) hopped back on the winning train with a one-point win against Catholic University. The Greyhounds defeated the Cardinals 63-62. The University of Scranton (10-3, 2-0) bounced back from a nonconference loss to Arcadia University (84-67), to defeat Elizabethtown College 91-60 on Saturday. Susquehanna University (9-4, 2-0 LC) defeated Goucher College 87-67.

Women’s Basketball
After Saturday, only two teams remain perfect in Landmark play. For the second straight year, Elizabethtown College defeated the University of Scranton on the Lady Royals’ home court. The Blue Jays (6-6, 2-0 LC) suffered an 89-61 loss to York College (Pa.) before beating Scranton 78-70 on Saturday. Susquehanna University (10-3, 2-0 LC) won its third straight game last week. The River Hawks picked up a 69-45 nonconference win at Lancaster Bible before defeating Goucher 72-62 on Saturday. Other conference winners included Drew University (10-3, 1-1 LC), who defeated Juniata College 72-55, and Moravian College (8-5, 1-1), who topped Catholic University 60-51.

Men's Athlete of the Week - Logan Bailey, Scranton

University of Scranton junior Logan Bailey had his two best scoring games of the 2019-20 season this past week, putting together a pair of 20-plus point scoring contests. After a 21-point effort in a loss at Arcadia, Bailey tallied a game-high 25 points in a 91-60 win over Elizabethtown on Saturday in which the Royals outscored the Blue Jays by 31 points in the 2nd half (55-23). He also dished out a season-high seven assists in the win. On the week, Bailey shot 68 percent from the field on 17-of-25 shooting to go along with six rebounds, eight assists, and one block.

Women's Athlete of the Week - Veronica Christ, Elizabethtown

(Junior, G - Pittstown, N.J.)

Elizabethtown junior Veronica Christ led the Blue Jays to a 78-70 upset win at fifth-ranked Scranton on Saturday. Christ tied a career-high with 28 points and 11 made field goals while also hitting a career-best six treys. It was the most points Scranton has given up since Jan. 2018 and the most a player has scored against the Royals this season. She shot over 50 percent from the floor and beyond the arc for the week and averaged 20.0 points per game.

Men's Athlete of the Week - Eric Towse, Susquehanna

(Sophomore, Staten Island, N.Y.)

Susquehanna sophomore Eric Towse broke a 17-year old Garrett Complex pool record as he captured the 200 backstroke in 1:53.55, knocking off the old mark of 1:54.22 set by Eric Daney of Albright College in 2003. He also claimed top honors in the 200 IM while taking second in the 100 backstroke. Towse, who tallied 26 points for the meet, led off the second-place 200 medley relay as well.

Women's Athlete of the Week - Cassie Sanidad, Juniata

(Sophomore, Silver Spring, Md.)

Juniata sophomore Cassie Sanidad swam a season-best time in the 200 breast (2:56.92) and a lifetime best in the 200 fly (2:43.57) to pick up the win against Chatham. She also helped the 200 medley relay team to a first-place finish with a time of 4:58.88.
