Drew University kicked off the new year with a 78-63 win against Rutgers-Newark. The Rangers are now 9-2 on the season and will host Carnegie Mellon in a non-conference matchup on Monday before hosting Juniata College on Saturday in Landmark action. Winners of five straight games, the University of Scranton (9-2) kicked off the second half of the season with an 85-79 home victory against King’s (Pa.). The Royals will travel to Arcadia in non-conference action on Wednesday before hosting Elizabethtown College on Saturday to kick off Landmark play. Elizabethtown College entered the new year with three straight wins. The Blue Jays (6-4), ended 2019 with an 82-76 win against John Jay, and opened 2020 with a pair of wins at the Spooky Nook Tournament. Etown defeated Penn State-Harrisburg 80-71 and St. Mary’s (Md.) 74-71.
Catholic University (10-2) opened the new year with a 1-1 record. The Cardinals were edged by Mary Washington 54-51 before defeating No. 14 Marymount (Va.) 56-51 at the Cardinals’ annual Jamie Lynn Roberts Classic. The University of Scranton had its 10-game win streak snapped on Saturday, December 28. The Lady Royals suffered a 54-44 loss to George Fox. Scranton bounced back to close out the first half of the season with a 63-57 win against St. Vincent. Susquehanna split a pair of games over the weekend. The River Hawks (8-3) lost to Christopher Newport 90-79 and defeated St. Mary’s (Md). 58-46 at the St. Mary’s New Year’s Classic. Drew University (9-3) won the CUNY Coaches vs Cancer Tournament. The Rangers defeated Clark University 85-59 to advance to the title game, where Drew defeated St. Joseph’s (L.I.) 77-55. The Rangers split a pair of games to start 2020, losing to St. Joseph’s (Brkln) 75-69 and defeating FDU-Florham 80-59. Moravian College went 1-1 to start January. The Greyhounds (7-5) defeated Neumann 63-50 before being edged by Lycoming 72-69.
