Landmark Announces Athletes of the Week

TOWSON, Md. - The Landmark Conference has released the Athletes of the Week. The conference will recognize a student-athlete for each sport based on their contributions to their team throughout the season.

Men’s Basketball
With winter break in full swing, only a handful of games were played last week. Moravian College (6-4) suffered an 85-78 loss to Yeshiva on Thursday before bouncing back against Immaculata 83-70 on Saturday. The University of Scranton won its fourth straight game last week. The Royals (8-2) earned a win over Bates 68-64 and defeated Massachusetts-Dartmouth 66-63. 

Women’s Basketball
The University of Scranton picked up a pair of wins last week. The Lady Royals (10-0) defeated Misericordia 75-57 on Thursday, and followed that performance up on Saturday with a 100-44 win against Rosemont.

The Landmark will take a break in selecting Athletes of the Week through the holidays. The next selections will be on Monday, January 6.

Men's Athlete of the Week - C.J. Barnes, Moravian

Men's Athlete of the Week - C.J. Barnes, Moravian

(Senior, G - Egg Harbor Township, N.J.)

Senior C.J. Barnes helped Moravian to a 1-1 week to close out the first half of the season, and he also became the Greyhounds' 24th 1,000-point scorer. Barnes averaged 18.0 points and 5.5 rebounds per game while shooting 9-of-24 from the floor, 7-for-17 beyond the three-point line and 11-for-11 at the foul line to go along with five assists. Barnes had 13 points, four boards and three assists in an 85-78 loss to Yeshiva University while playing 32 minutes. He finished the week with 23 points, seven rebounds and two assists in an 83-70 win over Immaculata University.

 

 


Women's Athlete of the Week - Emily Sheehan, Scranton

Women's Athlete of the Week - Emily Sheehan, Scranton

(Senior, G - Dunmore, Pa.)

Scranton senior Emily Sheehan was named MVP of the Poinsettia Classic after averaging 14.5 points per game in the two games of the tournament and scored a game-high 18 points in a 95-43 win over Elmira on Wednesday. The Dunmore, Pa., native also added a career-high five steals in a 75-57 win over Misericordia on Thursday.
